Registration FAQ's
BBYSL Registration - Frequently Asked Questions

When Is Registration?
BBYSL encourages all players to register early to be guaranteed a place on a team!   There are plenty of registration dates for Spring/Summer Season and are scheduled January through March.  Go to our calendar section on our website.  The Final Registration date is usually in mid-March and a $25.00 Late Fee may be added to regular fees after this date.  All players that register on or before the Final Deadline Registration date are usually guaranteed a place on a team roster.   Because our registration dates sometimes overlap with high school softball tryouts , practices, and games - BBYSL sometimes sets special 18U DIVISION registration dates and waives the late fee for League Age 15, 16, 17, & 18 players ONLY.  Please check the calendar for all registration dates and again ... REGISTER EARLY.

Fall Season - At this time BBYSL does not offer a Fall Season.

How Much Does It Cost To Play?
Not as much as you might think! For ALL DIVISIONS, except 6U and 19O, $125 (but actually only $60) for one player.  Why the (2) two figures?  The $125.00 is your initial out-of-pocket expense.  $50.00 of this figure is a (per family) fund raiser.  You pay for the fund raising items up front and then when you sell the items, you get to put that money back in your pocket!  $15.00 of this figure (per player) Refundable Volunteer Fee. When you volunteer a minimum 2 hours at BBYSL;  be it coaching, team parent, field and grounds work, concession stand, scorebook keeper and other areas as needed we put the $15.00 back in your pocket..  The remaining $60.00 is the Division Fee that covers uniforms, umpires, team equipment,  field maintenance, electricity, and many other league expenses.  We usually play a 12-14 regular season schedule and then a league tournament.  You are paying approximately $4.00 to $6.00 per game.   You get to meet new friends,  fairest team selection process in the area, and play on THE BEST SOFTBALL FIELDS in Northeastern Illinois.  6U Players pay $100 (but actually $35) when you sell the fund raising items and volunteer.  We do have MULTIPLE sibling discounts.  BBYSL SOFTBALL IS A GREAT VALUE!  Double-Goal Coaches, Play In One Place, Parking, Coaches Workshops, Player Clinics, Coach Drill and Practice Sets, and much more.

Do I Have To Live In Bradley Or Bourbonnais To Play Softball In BBYSL?

ABSOLUTELY NOT!  As long as the player lives in the State of Illinois and can attend practices and games on a regular basis your child can register and play softball in BBYSL.  All games are played at ONE location except 18U Division.  Every season we have players from several surrounding communities like Beecher, Kankakee, Manteno, Momence, and Saint Anne.

How Many Age Divisions Do You Have At BBYSL?
BBYSL offers seven (7) different League Age divisions; 6U (Boys & Girls League Age 6, 5, & 4), 8U , 10U,  12U , 14U , 18U, and 19O.  BBYSL established League Age Divisions to help players develop their softball, sportsmanship, and leadership skills in a sequential manner with players similiar in age, mental, and physical development.  Even with this system, players are still going to have unique abilities and levels of maturation that cannot be avoided.  In 2008 BBYSL developed a 19 & Older division for women that want to play recreational "fastpitch" softball in the summer. (More info available on website about 19 & Older)  Boys can only play in our 6U division.  When they turn seven (7) you should contact your local baseball league.

How Do I Know What League Age Division I Will Play In?
A players League Age is determined by how old they are on January 1st.  League Age 14 Exception:  If a League Age 14 Player is on a High School Softball Team they MUST play in 18U Division.  All other League Age 14 players will play in 14U Division.  This protects our high school softball players from violating IHSA rules.

How Will I Be Placed On A Team?
All 6U-18U Division Players, except 19O, are placed on a team using the BBYSL's Blind Draw System.  BBYSL makes every effort to blind draw evenly distributed teams in each division by League Age, including pitchers and catchers.  Every player who signs up before the deadline will be assigned to a team.  The BBYSL Board may alter the minimum and maximum number of players assigned to a team to achieve division and league goals.

What If My Child Has Never Played Softball Before...Are Beginners Encouraged?
ABSOLUTELY !  We are a recreational and an educational league.  Every season we have new players in all divisions, but especially in our 6U, 8U, & 10U Divisions.  Our coaches are instructed and encouraged to teach all players the ELM Tree of Mastery(Effort, Learning, and bouncing back from Mistakes.)  We have adopted a "Continous Batting Order" and "Participation" rules in every division to help new players become part of the game immediately and help them reach a level of confidence based on their willingness to learn the skills required to have FUN playing the game of fastpitch softball.  New Players are always welcome!  It's never too late to learn and have FUN playing softball.

Can I Play On My Friend's Team?
There are two possible ways that you and a friend might be on the same team!  One sure way is if both of your parents apply and are accepted as coaches for the same team.  The other way would be a matter of LUCK through the Blind Draw System.  Part of BBYSL's mission is to encourage the development of new friendships among our players, teams, and parents each season.  Playing on different teams promotes individual player development in terms of skills, teamwork, leadership, sportsmanship, friendship, and respect for others.

How Will I Find Out What Team My Child Is Assigned?
Your Head Coach or Team Parent will contact you by telephone or email within 7-10 days after the division player selection meeting.  At the time of registration we asked your parent/guardian to provide the league with one phone number and an email address for all league communication.  Please check your voice mail and email often so you stay connected.

Will I Be On The Same Team As Last Year?
Not necessarily, it depends the Blind Draw in 6U, 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U, & 18U and if team sponsors remain the same.  The only players "frozen" at their league age in each division are coaches daughters or grand-daughters.

If I Register Before The Deadline, Will I Definitely Be Placed On A Team?
Yes, we will form as many teams as needed for the number players who register in each division by the end of regular registration dates, unless we have so many teams and can't find enough coaches.

What Time And Where Are Games Played?
Weekday regularly scheduled games usually start at 6pm and/or 8pm.  Saturday regularly games usually start at 9am, 11am, 1pm, and/or 3pm.  The league sets aside a few Sundays for re-scheduled and/or make up games and will start at 1pm.  ALL Games are played at Hynek Fields, except 18U Division.  18U Division ONLY plays on Tuesdays and Thursdays to allow for easier work and possible travel ball scheduling.  19 & Older Division usually plays two games on Sundays during June and July.  The BBYSL Complex has four (4) fields for our 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U, 18U, & 19O divisions and two (2) fields for our 6U SOF-T division.
